December 10
So I am feeling bad as I haven't written much in a long time and now I am in a cafe with slow speed and a crummy keyboard so I am not inspired to write much.....I apologize. We are now in Siem Reap in Cambodia to see the temples of Ankor. We have spent two days at the temples so far and will spend one more tomorrow before heading to Bangkok. While it is very hot the temples are really amazing and we are being taken around to them by a Tuk Tuk driven by a really nice young guy named Sapir. There are a lot of people here so sometimes it is hard to appreciate the sights as you battle the crowds but at other times we have found quiet corners to enjoy - today at Ta Promh we had one of those experiences!
I am so far behind on the details of our trip I don't know where to start anymore...I know that I left off on our train ride to Hanoi...boy does that seem like a long time ago! I guess some of the "fun" highlights since then have been the overnight train to Dong Hoi...the trains are nicer in China by a long shot, trying to figure out why the folks in Dong Hoi would not sell us a ticket to Hue and then finding out the tracks were flooded out so no one was going - it wasn't just us. Taking a taxi out to the caves in Dong Hoi after being assured that they were open only to find out that they were flooded...oh well - nice ride in the country. Riding bicycles in the rain in Hue to the tombs of long ago emperors. Ordering custom made silk clothes in Hoi An. Seeing an elephant on the beach in Hoi An, Tom being called a happy buddah on the same beach, having a great bottle of rose wine in Saigon, the last two days riding around in a Tuk Tuk seeing the ancient sights of Angkor.
I promise to write more when we find some better computers - always some excuse I know!
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season.
Hugs
Pam and Tom
